Following a few good tips can often help prevent colds and flu especially during the winter season. Here are some easy to do suggestions:
- Always wash your hands.
- Avoid touching your face as the cold and flu virus can enter your body through the eyes, nose and mouth.
- Sneeze or cough into a tissue (rather than into your hands) and throw it away immediately. Remember that the cold and flu virus is airborne and can spread quickly and readily.
- Get plenty of rest and relaxation and sleep.
- Ensure you have regular exercise to keep fit and healthy.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.
- Avoid smoking.
- Reduce consumption of alcohol.
- Avoid stress.
If it’s all too late and you’ve caught the virus…
There are no vaccines available to prevent common colds. However medical treatment aims to reduce symptoms allowing you to feel more comfortable and have the ability to continue with your daily routine, and to allow the body’s natural defences to combat the virus.
Ask your Pharmacist about Logicin® and follow these useful tips to give yourself some relief.
- Keep warm and get plenty of rest.
- Drink hot liquids to relieve nasal congestion and prevent dehydration.
- If you can’t sleep at night, make a cup of hot herbal tea. Add one teaspoon of honey and some lemon.
- Blow your nose gently and regularly.
- Ask your pharmacist for a vaporiser and some eucalyptus oil which will help to keep the air moist and provide some relief in breathing.
- Take a steamy shower to moisturise the nasal passages and to help you relax.
- Ask your Pharmacist for "triple action" Logicin® Rapid Relief Lozenges. Each lozenge has a three way antibacterial, anaesthetic and anti-inflammatory action to provide relieve for your sore throat.
- Sleep with an extra pillow under your head. The gradual slope will help to ease breathing.
- Avoid stress.
- Eat a good diet containing plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. Bananas, peppers, carrots, onions, horseradish and green tea are some foods that are known to help fight off colds and flu.
If you need to get on with your daily routine and need help to sleep at night, ask your AMCAL Pharmacist about Logicin® Flu Strength Day and Night tablets which contain a nasal decongestant to ease breathing by unblocking your nose, an analgesic for your muscle or joint aches and also an antihistamine that will helpdry up secretions. Relieving these symptoms will help you sleep better at night.
